Summertime means Saturdays by the pool, family vacations at the beach, barbecues with friends, and long afternoons on the golf course. Unfortunately, due to intense sunlight and humid conditions, damaged skin and hair also come with the package. However, with regular maintenance, you can revive even the most parched profile. This summer, try incorporating the tips below into your grooming routine. You’ll look and feel great – no matter how high the temperatures get!
Don’t forget the sunscreen.
While we all know how important sunscreen is, many of us aren’t using it correctly. If you use too much, you’ll feel greasy and most likely sweat it off. If you don’t use enough, you’ll end up sunburned. When you are outdoors for an extended amount of time, use a penny-sized amount for the face and one shot glass-sized squeeze for the body. As it gets hotter, it is important to increase your SPF protection, too. Apply a face moisturizer with a SPF of 20+ every morning.

Add exfoliation to your grooming routine.
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, speeds up your cell turnover, minimizes blocked pores, and prevents ingrown hairs caused by shaving. Combined, these things can all combat the effects of the harsh summer sun.
Exfoliating 2x a week does the trick. Remember that rubbing too hard can cause irritation. Use your fingertips and rub in a gentle, circular motion while avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water.

Hydrate your skin.
We’re not just talking about drinking H2O here, which is very important…no doubt!
Take it one step further by hydrating your skin with a daily facial moisturizer. This will prevent your face from overproducing oil while combating a shiny nose and forehead.

Use hair conditioner.
The elements of summer– sun, chlorine and salt water– can wreak havoc on your hair. A detoxing shampoo can strip away summer’s damage and rid the hair of product residue, pollutants, and hard water minerals – however, leave it feeling dry. Make sure you are also using a conditioner to keep hair moisturized. Your hair will look more youthful and healthy.

Get haircuts frequently.
The best way to fight frizz and mend damage is with a quality haircut.
If you usually schedule a trim every four weeks, this summer make it every three, and keep hair short on the back of the neck. Neck trims are quick and keep you looking and feeling your best in between cuts.
