If you’re like me and are taking your time to figure out what your news resolutions are don’t worry its not February yet. Plus making the same New Year’s resolutions over and over can get pretty boring, I say step out of your annual routine with these 5 Thought Provoking New Year’s Resolutions.
Put the Gadgets Down! Did anyone recently hear about the tragic story about the poor man who fell off a cliff because he was preoccupied with being on his phone? I truly believe that the tech phenomenon has made our lives more convenient however it has taken us away from being the type of society that ‘stops to smell the roses’ or simply for us to watch were we’re going. Let’s choose to partake in activities that involve human interaction and work on our interpersonal communicative skills that we seem to use less and less.
Enough with the selfies, time to do something selfless. I first heard a phrase similar to this by Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen as part of her platform with her in fact being a part of the “Selfie Generation”. I can honestly say that I have not jump on the selfie bandwagon, don’t get me wrong I love that people are loving themselves and want to share that with the world through social media but I think it’s time for us to reel it back in a little. Let’s go back to the time when Millennials were considered the most community service oriented generations. Where did this go, find a cause this year that speaks to your heart and personality or just take the time.
Get in the car and drive! One of my favorite quotes is by the Dalai Lama
which is “Once a year go someplace you’ve never gone before.” Chances are there’s a place in your city or state that you’ve never been. I learned this while traveling during my year as Miss Texas. Road trips are making an epic come back thanks to gas prices being low. It’s good to have an adventurous mind with the need to explore, get in the car with a group of your friends, kids, boyfriend or girlfriend, etc.
It’s always good to go outside. Do you remember when you were younger and your parents always wanted you to go outside to play, apply that same logic now that you’re in adulthood. Plus, since one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is for people to get back in shape, well this just enhances that resolution. Having the same inside workout routine can get boring. Find activities that can be done outside while helping you accomplish your fitness goals. We as a society spend so much of our day inside, a little sun and fresh air can do us some good.
Remind yourself of you worth. Daily Affirmations can be a powerful thing. Begin your day with a conversation with yourself, a daily affirmation; this can be done through mediation, journaling, prayer or with a note on your mirror. Because we are human we have to remind ourselves how blessed we are and what we have to offer. When we value ourselves we begin to see the values in others which changes the way we treat people. Ever notice how hard it is to take care of others when we don’t have our life together? Taking care of one’s self physically, emotionally and mentally is vital and why not start every day with reminding yourself that you are worth being taken care of
