Dallas Art Activities: January 23

As January is coming to its end, the year 2017 is picking up steam. Art activities in the coming week are varied and plentiful, and leave you hesitant about where to turn your attention.

There are several options for music lovers. On January 25, a celebrated actress and singer, with credits in musical theatre, film and television, Kristin Chenoweth will be making an appearance at the Winspear Opera house for a one-night performance titled “The Art of Elegance”, featuring American Songbook classics.

January 26th is marked by a rare acoustic duo concert of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, who are celebrating a quarter century of musical collaboration at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie.

Jason Alexander, a star of Seinfeld and Broadway’s Producers, is coming to Dallas to lighten up the stage of Morton Meyerson Center with a fiery collage of comedy and show tunes on January 27th, 28th and 29th.

BeniniAlla Geometria” exhibit is opening on January 27th at The Museum of Geometric and MADI art and will feature a collection of brightly colored, optically misleading paintings born entirely of geometric shapes. Nasher Sculpture Center is also introducing a new exhibition. January 28th is the start of a three-month long run of a retrospective review of prints by the accomplished American sculptor and print-maker Richard Serra. Spanning 45 years of his career, the collection illustrates the artist’s ingenuity in continuously pushing the boundaries of traditional print-making methods and techniques. The opening will be preceded by an introduction of the works by Doctor Richard Shiff scheduled at 2 pm.

strong>Bridgman|Packer Dance performance presented by TITAS will hit the stage at the Dallas City Performance Hall on January 27th and 28th. The revolutionary duo of Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer has been collaborating since 1978 as performers and choreographers and is well-known for the concept of video partnering. Bridgman|Packer performances integrate live dance and video projections and create highly impactful and emotionally stimulating blends of the virtual and the real.


Also, don’t forget, this coming week is the week of the Oscars. You can celebrate this yearly affair of glamour and cinema by attending a special event at the Dallas Arboretum. The gorgeous Dallas locale will be welcoming guests on January 26th to enjoy A Night at the Oscars: Films, Wine & Winners. Emmy award-winning journalist, Gary Cogill, and Sommelier, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, will be leading the lively discussion and degustation, and will introduce perfect pairings of wines with the nominated films. What could be a better celebration than the perfect mix of entertainment and wine?
