I often think of things we see in terms of taste. Visually, things can be tasty, right? It is not a stretch to associate colors and tastes: to translate shapes and volumes into palate sensations. If you think like me, then let me tell you, DIFFA’s Dining by Design Fundraising event in New York City was a complete sensory overload both in terms of palettes and palates. The 19th Annual DINING BY DESIGN (DBD) event took place last March 17th through 21st at Pier 92 in Midtown Manhattan, and boasted more than 50 dazzling design installations to appeal to every discerning taste. Moroccan spiciness, frosted coolness, African leisure, sumptuous formality, fruity warmth, tropical paradise – those were just a few tasty “visions” the designers brought to life, transforming a raw space into a showcase of extravagant dining displays in support of the HIV/AIDS cause. Fashion Scoop in collaboration
with Gary Riggs Home and our gracious table host Donna Fishel created a colorfully rich and delightfully exquisite installation with a slight nod to the Orient. Jewel tones, plush rugs, elegance of the detail made your eye wonder and your mouth water with anticipation. Other installations included Ralph Lauren Home, Fendi Casa, EGE by Adrien Alexander, Roche Bobois, Arteriors, Design Withing Reach, Studio O+A & Teknion Studio, Echo, Bolon by VIIR among many others.
NY DIFFA Dining by Design event is recognized as one of the premier fundraising events in the design industry benefiting the HIV/AIDS cause. The fabulous display installations were available for public viewing from Thursday until Sunday afternoon, followed by the Cocktails By Design party (Thursday, March 17) and the DIFFA Gala dinner (Monday, March 21). www.diffa.org
