As a supporting designer for DIFFA Dallas fashion show and auction, who have been involved with the cause for ten years, I am always in awe of the creativity and flamboyance that go into the production of each event. It is a sensory overload compiled of bursts of color and beats of music, incredible taste and unabashed sensuality. With excitement and anticipation I think to myself: “no, they simply can’t make it any better”, and unfailingly, they do!
This year’s themed event “Circo Rouge”, that took place on May 21st, definitely exceeded all expectations. The Omni downtown hotel vibrated with the energy of almost 1,600 guests – all exquisitely dressed and fabulously excited. Remarkable photo ops and surrealistic live performers awaited the crowd upon their arrival to the cocktail party… Silent auction boasted a never-before seen variety and quality of designer items. Of course, we cannot forget the main focus of the evening – the showing and the auction of one-of-a-kind designer jackets.
Later the doors opened into the banquet hall, pulsing to the beats of the light show, with the stage set on fire by breath-taking circus performances. I have to commend the director of the production: while keeping with the selected circus theme, all artistic performances were distinctly original and had a definite DIFFA flair.
Live auction and the delectable three-course dinner accompanied by the show was far from the conclusion of the evening. The most energetic guests continued the celebration far into the night at the DIFFA after-party, which, I am sorry to say, I did not attend simply because I ran out of steam.
I fondly re-run my memories and think how incredible it is that a combination of creative energies and caring hearts bring to life such an amazing experience of LIVING: living in the moment, living by giving hope, living by sharing with others. This is what DIFFA is all about – the celebration of LIFE in support of the HIV/AIDS cause.
