DotDotDot: BAHZ LAUNCH

The invite said the party was at a place called SuitSupply, I immediately imagined a Men’s Wearhouse kind of place with 22 year-old salespeople that thought they knew more about fashion than I did. But, I’m relatively new here in Dallas, still, and was unaware that SuitSupply, located in the chic West End, was quite stylish and carried fairly conservative menswear with a bit of a flair... It was certainly a great place for the launch of BRITT HARLESS’s new jewelry collection, called WINTER BRANCHES IN BASTILLE for her newly rebranded company BAHZ… Beautiful Britt is an inspiration, enduring multiple hardships that turned her distress into creativity… The jewelry, organically inspired, spoke of substance, strength, regrowth and renewal. “TREES ARE THE ANSWER” said a bumpersticker that came in the gift bags (more on that soon), and trees were certainly the answer to all of Britt’s questions. The bare-branched trees (the Winter Branches) made an elegantly simple statement, and most cleverly, when turned upside down, the shape became a massive root system…

...The event brought together both the stylish and the stylemakers, in a spectacular and colorful way - I’ve never known Britt to do anything halfway. The designers, the models, the photographers, the stylists and the editors mingled with a well-dressed crowd that included many of their own clients and readers... LUIS NAZARIO and his business (and life) partner ANDRE YABIN, collectively known as BINZARIO COUTURE, make the fashionable social scene regularly as sought-after guests. I was in awe of Andre at first, knowing that he’s pretty much top-dog in the Dallas design arena, and stalked him on social media like a spy. But then I met Luis. Oh. My. God. I love Luis. Not that I don’t love Andre too, but Luis just has such and adorable quality about him that is irresistible. I can’t resist it, anyway, and apparently, neither can Andre. Together they make a beautiful couple - a beautiful couple who happens to make beautiful dresses. Okay. Enough about them…

...Designer LILIT

MATEVOSYAN was there - we’ve also had a social media romance, but hadn’t met each other until Britt’s launch. Lilit will be hosting a party on Nov. 6 to unveil her new atelier, which promises to be a delightful evening, full of surprises… Stylist MICHAEL RODRIGUEZ was there, along with his lavishly dreadlocked brother MATTHEW RODRIGUEZ, both affable, charming and beautiful… Michael’s most regular partner-in-crime MINDY LOLL was there of course. If Mindy’s not at your party, well, then your party just doesn’t count…

...Beautiful stylist DAWN MELLON was there, bringing her own brand of elegance. She just has it, you know. It. That undefinable something that makes her stand out from a crowd. Poise, grace, style… lucky girl… Designer CHARLES SMITH II was there, high on his trip to Paris that came immediately after his award-winning success at FASHION X DALLAS. You could hardly get to him - not because he’s unapproachable, but because he had so many admirers at the party… JENNY SEIDE and JENNIFER de SOCARRAZ-FLEMING, designers for PEARLS & TALONS, made the scene, and also made the bias-cut infinity scarves that were part of the gift bag…

...My own doppelganger of color was there - designer NICHOLAS J. MOORE. The first time I laid eyes on him at an ESĒ trunk show at DEMERARA, three things hit me all at once. First, that VOGUE’s ANDRE LEON TALLEY had just arrived. Second, that legendary disco star SYLVESTER had risen from the dead. And third, that someone was playing a joke on me by sending in some black queen dressed as me, down to the signature sunglasses and fan. None of the above. Nicholas has simply combined a number of influences to create his look, just like I did. Just like, as a matter of fact. We are cut from the same fabric, as it were… YVONNE CRUM was there - if she’s there, you know you’ve done something right. We look forward to her upcoming kickoff party for next year’s FASHION STARS FOR A CAUSE
