“Difficult color green” once said lady Trentham of the famous film Gosford Park. It may indeed be, however the tides are turning. The Pantone Color Institute has announced its pick for the color of the year 2017, and the color is GREEN, Greenery Green! (Pantone 15-0343)
You may think the choice a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade is unexpected, but it is actually not the case. If we believe fashion theory, three examples of anything is the birth of a trend. In the case of Greenery Green, it is not just the birth, it is actually an explosion. The color has been gaining in popularity since 2014 appearing around us in architectural solutions, interior accents, high-tech gadgets, organic juices, runway fashion and lighting design. Gucci, Michael Kors, Prada and Balenciaga all showed some presence of leaf green in their collections since 2014. Even car industry followed suit. Just check out Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster that comes in a very attractive green.
The selection of GREENERY as the color of 2017 is symbolic of the feelings that permeate global societies today. Increasing stress, social tensions and anxieties make people long for a simpler, more organic and natural life. Greenery represents the notions of revitalization, reinvigoration, vitality and the new beginnings.
In fact, in nature greenery is neutral, it is everywhere no matter where you live. It is proven by psychologists that by immersing ourselves in a forest, or in any natural environment we can greatly improve our mental and psychological states. It is no wonder then that subconsciously we are drawn to the color of fresh spring greenery that represents life itself.
Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute said: “This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the ‘re’ words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life affirming to look forward to.”
You can’t put it better than that. Let us also look forward to 2017 – the year of new hopes, new beginnings and GREENERY.
