London designer Oliver Spencer knows his customer - and you may too. For the second season, Oli joined forces with esteemed photographer Rankin to celebrate his Spring/Summer 2016 collection and produce a campaign that is fresh, edgy and modern - just like Oli’s clothes.
‘’Doing the second version of the book was always our intention, the project felt very natural and working with Rankin is a complete joy. We started from one simple concept: a close-knit group of friends with diverse personalities, an iconic chair and Rankin’s masterful eye. The result exceeded my expectations: my clothes come and become a tool for individuals to articulate their identity with.” Using Harry Bertoia’s Bird Chair, designed in 1952 for Hans and Florence Knoll, and sculpted from welded steel rods, Oliver invited ten of his brand’s more notable devotees to sit for Rankin. Just as the Knolls gave Bertoia creative freedom to express his talent, Spencer, who has has built a brand around his vision of hand-crafted quality with stylish accents and details, let his
friends’ personalities take center stage. The focus on the campaign is not the clothes, but the men who wear them.
Spencer’s devotees include Dan Crowe, model and tattoo artist; Gary Kemp, actor and Spandau Ballet’s guitar player/chief songwriter; Wolfgang Buttress and his son Ethan, artists and architects whose work include the UK Pavilion at EXPO; Alex Verier and Dom Bridges, masterminds behind Haeckels candles; Toby Bateman, Mr. Porter’s managing director; Shay Ola, chef and owner of London's Death By Burrito; James Sleaford, fashion director at GQ France; Ben Jackson, model and agent; Harris Elliott, stylist, creative director and designer; and last but not least, Allen Leech, actor.
