“As a woman designer, I am very much in tune with what needs to fit inside my bag. And I know - like myself - no one wants to carry a bag that’s too heavy or too precious.” Thus speaks chic New Yorker Jill Haber of her new Fall 2016 purses. And as a New Yorker whose husband owns a string of fancy restaurants, Haber is a woman with a lot on her plate already.
Employing an Enchanted Forest theme, Haber says, “This collection is dedicated to all the fair maidens out there conquering the world.” Dishing up a forest feast of colors and textures, Haber knows that style doesn’t have to bland. The earthy ash and the ecru mushroom, the mossy fougere greens and woodberry colors are just as distinctly pungent whether in nature or in beads, fur or suede. A major statement in the collection marries a Kiltie-style and Southwestern taste, with strips of suede woven into embellishments enhanced by prominent lacing. It appears
as fetching and diverting in everything from shadow-colored suede to amber mink.
Another recurring detail is pleating the flap of the bag to look like a bow, secured with tassels. Applied to a silver karung envelope bag, as was a roomy, slouchy shoulder bag in tone-on-tone moss green mink and suede, as well as a multi-colored chevron, the effect is simple yet dramatic. Young maidens seeking magical fairie land colors find them in pink and rainbow-colored paisley needlework, two-toned berry-colored suede, and shimmering iridescent beads trimmed in feathers. A group of sculpted geometric bags with mirror-like facets offset the lush, dewy looks and offer a distinct hard-edged feel that may or may not be lacking.
