The vaunted HOUSE OF DIOR, the jewel in the crown of LVMH, the LOUIS VUITTON MOET HENNESSY galaxy of luxury, announced on Thursday that RAF SIMONS, the artistic director at CHRISTIAN DIOR was leaving the brand. No replacement has been named. Uh huh. Get a movie, DIOR & I, made about you and hit the road, huh, Simons? Just kidding, doll… Simons had an outstanding run at Dior.
Even BERNARD ARNAULT himself, the chairman of LVMH, along with the chief executive of CHRISTIAN DIOR COUTURE, were impeccably gracious about Simons, thanking him for “his exceptional contribution to the HOUSE.” Of course that “contribution” they refer to was Simons stabilizing influence after the notorious L’AFFAIRE DE GALLIANO.
Short List for the pretenders to the throne? ADRIAN
APPIOLAZA, who assisted PHOEBE PHILO at CHLOE, as well as after her departure, as well as having Louis Vuitton, PRADA, and currently LOEWE under his belt; MATTHIEU BLAZY, protege of Simons himself, and unsung star at MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA; a protege of Ghesquiere at Balenciaga, ALISTAIR CARR has rebranded PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND; wild card YVAN MISPELAERE, has a portfolio including DIANE VON FURSTENBURG, ROBERTO CAVALLI, GUCCI and VALENTINO; and finally, SEBASTIEN PEIGNE, with his impeccable credentials of ten years under GHESQUIERE at BALENCIAGA, and having revived the legendary MUGLER name. The DARK HORSE? Bring back JOHN GALLIANO. He’s the one who understood Dior best.
