Artistix SS17 is a collection presented by the other Hilfiger, Andy Hilfiger, as the Fashion Director for artist Grey Polisseni’s clothing brand. The Spring/Summer 2017 Ready-To-Wear Women’s collection is infused with black/white inky prints by Polisseni. The black/white print-centric styles are very edgy, minimalistic in the forms of body suits, menswear inspired blazers, bra tops, cropped shirts, running shorts, bikinis with a SoHo attitude. Andy has roots in Rock-n-Roll, with this collection, he is putting his stamp of approval on the creativity of Polisseni as both a visual artist and a fashion designer. From a fashion designer’s point of view, the collection is more a demonstration of graphic arts than apparel constructions and fit. Though the quality of the clothes is good, the prints give the fabrics lives. Fabrics have become the canvas for Polisseni’s Pop Art but not a medium for unexpected alchemy. We, the People, now love streetwear just as much as hip-hop musicians and contemporary artists. Artistix may not enjoy the super-stardom like Hood by Air at this most recent presentation at NYFW but if Hilfiger is on board to develop the brand, we shall see how this collaboration will evolve.
Polisseni hand painted and created the core prints for his SS17 collection.
This collection is very wearable, solid in its commercial value.
