Marking the tenth year of her line, Erin Fetherston celebrated her brand’s anniversary by presenting a refreshingly chic Spring Summer 2017 collection. Fetherston, now a new mother and the head of ‘ERIN erin fetherson’, a rapidly growing lifestyle brand, brought her designer label back from the hiatus that she had taken to focus on the lifestyle line. “This collection is not just ‘Spring17’, or my ten-year anniversary collection, but more like Chapter One of what I hope will be a very long novel”, said the designer.
While keeping in line with the girlish romanticism she is known for, this season Fetherston adjusted her approach to incorporate more mature looks that could work for any age group. She was quoted saying “Certain silhouettes always work, whether you want to conceal one thing or accentuate another. I based this collection on those foundations, with plenty of eye candy mixed in too.”
Flirty dresses offered for SS17 were longer and looser, giving ample movement and comfort of wear. Beautiful off-the-shoulder frocks with slouchy feel evoked the atmosphere of Malibu beaches and breezy summer nights. There was something very 70’s and bohemian about this collection, but definitely more sophisticated and refined. The appearance of soft crepe suits in the line also indicated the designer’s move towards the clientele with preferences for more put together looks, yet adhering to her signature cool and relaxed aesthetic. Blouson sleeves were my favorite touch – elegant and feminine at once.
The sophistication of the collection was accentuated by the color palette. Muted light beach colors with an abundance of shimmering metallics were absolutely timeless and exquisite. Combinations of sheer and smooth, flat and shimmering, added visual textures to the design solutions. Garments appeared to be floating around the bodies, flattering the natural curves without being too precise. Another important note is that the selection included pieces for every occasion: casual, business and dressy. Fetherston explained “I want these clothes to serve women through the ever changing phases of their lives”. She certainly achieved that. She offered us beautiful fashion that can be lived in, not just admired, and it is a feat in itself.
