LANDLORD SS17 Emerged Right Out of A Factory

Designers: Daniel Huang, Ryohei Kawanishi and Naoki Masuda

Background: Huang, Owner of Fashion Queen Management

Huang is the 2nd generation of a New York Garment District family. He grew up learning the trade, helping his father with the apparel business and naturally he went on to attend Parsons’ MFA program. There, he met Ryohei Kawanishi and Naoki Masuda. Kwanishi graduated from Central Saint Martins and won a scholarship to study at Parsons when they all met. The birth of the collaboration started when Huang entered the scene as the factory partner.

Landlord is refined streetwear. It is part “fashion queen” meets military uniforms. A perfect synergy between Harajuku and proletariat uniforms creates an aesthetic that is bubble gum crosses UPS brown. Coincidentally, Huang’s family factory is primarily manufacturing military uniforms.

This is one label to watch in the next couple of seasons as streetwear inspired apparel is gaining momentum into main stream partly because of Kayne’s Yeezy.
