There was something angelic about Pamella Roland’s Spring Summer collection this season, angelic with an edge. Perhaps, it is because she combined the heavenly beauty of the picturesque Italian village of Positano that she cited as inspiration, with her brand’s traditional aesthetic of feminine beauty, strength and confidence. Flowing whites, pinks and lavenders envisioned in body-skimming silhouettes with sheer panels and cut outs channel Mediterranean seaside, while black and less decorated pieces showed an edgier side (think the LBD with the geometric leather inclusions).
The line up showed a versatile selection of looks, from elegant daywear and cocktail to Roland’s famous beaded gowns – a full wardrobe in which a lady can feel confident and polished, without forsaking her sensual side. An important touch was the embellishment of simple pieces. It is the touch of a master to be able to turn a simple silhouette into a regal statement. The designer was quoted saying after the show “people love pearls”, and she is right. Enough pearls can elevate a modest dress into a red-carpet statement.
Evening gown solutions were a particular pleasure to behold. White dresses appeared to be made of snow slowly melting around the models’ bodies. A green stunner showcased beaded vines intertwining and seemingly moving with every step. My personal favorite is an elegant dress of varying blues featuring an open shouldered neckline. The gradated colors and the shimmering beading created an allusion of a body ascending out of the depth of a deep ocean, with waters streaming down the sides – a miraculous sight indeed. I would not be surprised to see these at the Oscar’s next year. We are only left to wonder who can wear it best.
