Known for over-the-top effects, eveningwear designer Rubin Singer has shown a softer approach in his S/S 2017 collection during New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the depth and vast expanse of the universe, the collection captures the fluidity and unpredictability of cosmos and the endlessness of the galactic beauty. ”Into the deep” is an exploration of new proportions, new materials and a voyage to a new world.” – that’s how Robin Singer described his own collection prior to the presentation.
The “outerworld”-ness is distinctly reflected in his choice of fabrics. Iridescence, transparency, reflective abilities and unique patterns allude to the cosmic states our mind’s eye conjures when contemplating on the Universe. Airy silks and nets are skillfully combined with structured tailoring. Asymmetric affects are used to express unrestricted movement of energies.
Singer heavily utilizes his well-known corseted silhouette, but also infuses flirtier and more youthful styles, such as short mini-skirted compositions, adornments with paillettes, as well as creative and risqué applications of sheer fabrics and cut-outs. The daring use of patch-work leather and fabric, as well as harnessed and strapped designs are all rendered so beautifully that they don’t appear to be out of place in this collection of evening wear. Undoubtedly, this presentation was out of this world!
