The style of Todd Snyder takes a distinct turn towards youthful agility in his Spring Summer 2017 collection. Drawing inspiration from the exuberance of Monaco’s Grand Prix, the designer gives a nod to the slightly retro aesthetic of the mid-century icon of glamour, glory, and masculinity. He said “Think playboy meets tourist”, and created a collection of multi-faceted looks fit for the young, the chic and the sporty.
The more colorful side of the collection comes from another inspirational source – Wes Anderson’s film Bottle Rocket, starring Luke and Owen Wilson who boasted bold fashion choices and an Alfa Romeo. Snyder’s tracksuits, taffeta driving jackets, double breasted linen blazers are all speaking the language of the film characters. They make an unabashed declaration of style and masculine presence not fit for the faint-hearted.
Some of the designs presented by Todd Snyder for Spring 2017 were developed in collaboration with other brands, with several of them in fact. A green Harrington jacket came to life with through group efforts with Champion, sneakers (with New Balance), and a pair of nerdish glasses (with Moscot). Multiple collaborations seem to be gaining in vogue among many designers, and it seems to be a good thing too. While broadening branding opportunities for designers, it also broadens our styling horizons – a win-win for all.
A selection of the SS 2017 line is already available on the designer’s website. Those that can’t wait, can find an addition to their Christmas list among luxurious terry crewnecks, mohair paints and feather-light knits. Instant-gratification, anyone?
